Severe Clear


‎"The weather on the morning of Sunday, May 1st, was a springtime glory: crisp, sunny, infinite blue skies — the sort of conditions that pilots call 'severe clear.'"

This is the opening paragraph of the wonderfully thoughtful piece in this week's New Yorker by David Remnick about the day Osama Bin Laden was killed.

Today was another incredibly clear blue day here in New York and I thought yet again about that horrifying September morning almost 10 years ago — but this time with a difference.
